Pellet Fireplace Insert

Looking for a pellet fireplace insert?  Pellet stoves are a great alternative to wood stoves.  Pellets are often the byproduct of sawmills and are dense and compact wood pellets that are about ½” big.  These are a cheap and easy to product energy source with minimal pollution, which is why a lot of people opt to go with the pellet fireplace insert.

A pellet fireplace insert will occupy the entirety of your fireplace as opposed to a wood burning stove which just sits inside of it.  The Pellet fireplace insert will have a shield that cordons off the fireplace indentation, only giving you access to the center of the unit via a glass door.

If you’re not sure which of these to get, here are a few short reviews to help give you an idea of which ones are good buys:

1.  The Milan Fireplace Insert

This is an insert created by the company Enviro.  It only extends 8.4” onto the heart, has easy to use controls and a 18.5” x 13.5” glass front.  This has an input of 34,000 BTU, heats anywhere from 800-1500 square feet, is 83% efficient, has a quiet convection system, a 55 pound hopper capacity among many other great features.

It is an elegant looking insert that will look good on almost any fireplace.

2.  The Empress Fireplace Insert

Here’s another one to consider from Enviro.  This is made of cast iron, extends 9” onto the hearth, has an arched cast iron surround, easy to use controls, is 83% efficient, has a 34,000 BTU input and all in all is pretty comparable to the Milan fireplace.  This is perhaps a bit more elegant looking though while the Milan is more contemporary, this also comes in diamond black and antique chestnut colors.

3.  The Meridian Fireplace Insert

Here’s a durable and attractive option.  This has a quiet 160 cfm convection fan that helps deliver 45,000 BTUs of heat to your home.  This has an adjustable hopper so as to fit into most fireplaces, it also has automatic controls.

Other specs are that this is 75.8% efficient, it weighs in at 255 pounds, is 22 ¾” high, 25” wide and 25” deep, has painted trim and door accents and a bay arched door.

Now if looking for a pellet fireplace insert, there are plenty of others to consider, especially from other companies, but this should give you an idea of where to start looking.
